Little words can have big meanings and ‘guna’ is such word. Yes, it’s from another language. It describes an energy level in everything and everyone, in varying degrees. Guna is the general name of three important components: action, rest, and balance. These three factors can be a blessing or a curse depending on their intensity. Too much action leads to impulse and accidents. Rest is wonderful but being restful full-time achieves nothing. Being balanced and calm is good but can lead to feelings of superiority over those who don’t have it. Checking the guna in our daily lives can help us to help ourselves. The finest recipe for moderating our levels of energy is to breathe deeply and evaluate ourselves. Is it time to slow down, or is it time to act? Automatic reactions aren’t always the best.
