Gaming is seriously affecting relationships across all age groups. It’s not just teens who are finding intense pleasure sitting in the corner playing by themselves. This is a problem because constant gaming withdraws individuals away from their partners, family and friends.
What I’m hearing ,and it makes me smile, is the kids complaining. Sure, adults complain about the kids staring at their screens, but it’s not normal for kids to be complaining about their parents withdrawing.
It’s understandable for people of all ages to become interested in new games, new theories, new anything. But, when the new interest limits interaction with others, there’s a problem. The complaints I’ve heard from teens and spouses show excessive gaming is becoming a problem. The withdrawal by the gamer is being interpreted as a lack of caring about the people who the gamer is shutting out.
Maybe it’s time people, young and old alike, to leave their tablet and phone alone. Then they could provide more than a simple yes, no, or I’m OK, when spoken to. Chances are there will be no one in their world when they do raise their heads.
