The language we speak shapes our worldview because the base of a language supports or restricts what we see. Languages are based on objectivity or a combination of objectivity and subjectivity. English is based on objectivity. Another word for objectivity is materialism. We,who speak English primarily see only the things we can measure, weight or dissect. Knowledge gained through methods where we cannot replicate the results on command, we reject. Until recently, humans were the only life form having consciousness of emotion and compassion.

Indigenous languages the world over place equal value on information gained thru subjective means such as dreams, visions and simple knowingness. Another word for subjectivity is spiritual. Not only do these languages acknowledge levels of consciousness, but they also recognize it as being equal to or higher than their own.
The different attitudes result in different behaviors.

When objectivity rules, ownership and control are important. When subjectivity has strength, there is respect for all life forms, including mountains, rivers, plants and all animals, leading to co-existence. Neither attitude is perfect in all situations.

Next week the strengths and weaknesses of each be presented.
