Jyotish is the name given to the astrology practiced in India. The name means light of God or knowledge, Jyotish provides each of us with a map of greater self-understanding which enables us to make decisions that are self-honoring and respectful.

No one knows exactly who was responsible for recognizing the relationships between human behaviour and planetary motion. However, in the case of Jyotish, credit is given to the Maharishi (Sages) of older and much wiser times.

Since the beginning of time humans have looked up into the heavens with awe and wonder. In English the stationary lights are called stars while the moving lights have been called planets. The Maharishi used a different word for the planets, between our Sun and Saturn. The word they used was Graha which translates to mean: that which can grab. In short they attributed special energies and levels of consciousness to these bodies.

The Maharishi labelled these bodies differently due to their way of seeing the world and all of creation. Over the eons, since the knowledge of Jyotish was established, mystics and philosophers from all cultures have arrived at the same conclusion: everything has a level of consciousness capable of inter-connecting with everything else. Today, within the field of Physics, the recognition of such inter-connectedness is called Non-locality.

The foundation of all forms of astrology can rest within this explanation. Greater understanding of the foundation and effect of Jyotish will be gained through the various articles and examples that will be presented through the blog articles by myself and by guest contributors.
