Yoga’s Magic.
Yoga is a short word and, like many short words it covers a multitude of options. Commonly yoga is thought of as a form of exercise. It’s a way to keep the body in fine form. But the word is much more than simple exercise although the focused exercise of self will and self-discipline are major factors
People who have practiced yoga have very diverse ways of describing the benefits they receive from the activity. “A sense of peace”, “a calmness”, “I found myself”. For those who have health concerns yoga is a blessing and has been proven to be a boon for health and the lowering of high blood pressure.
The purpose of yoga is to facilitate our union with the energy of creation. Such energy has many names, a common one is God. The unification theme of yoga continues in astrology. Just as the purpose of yoga is to unite us with God. In Jyotish a yoga unites different energies, one with another. Sometimes a yoga will unite three or more energies into one force. With such an occurrence, a gestalt occurs and the whole is once again shown to be greater than the sum of its parts. The more distinctive the patterns created, the more complex the outcome of the combined forces. In Astrology, the lords or rulers, of each sign have specific qualities which can manifest for good or bad.
When the energy radiating from one source merges with the energy of another source the effect can be positive if both sources vibrate at the same rate. Chaos can occur when the energies are not compatible. For example, Jupiter is supposed to be generous, warm hearted and benevolent. When Jupiter shares its energy with the Sun good things happen because the Sun is the source of all life, so now there would be more abundance.
Consider the interaction of energies between the Sun and Venus. This isn’t so good in many cases. Why? The lack of understanding between them. The Sun is male and very authoritarian. He takes his position seriously. Venus is female representing sensuality and creativity in all forms, including being a dancing girl. To complicate the issue, the Sun represents the element fire whereas Venus represents water. Too much Sun energy on the water energy of Venus and Venus disappears. Conversely, if there is too much water energy from Venus onto the fiery energy of the Sun, the fire goes out. When the fire is out, so is the resolve to walk a path of nobility. This is why the Sun is not comfortable with Venus energy: dancing girls can turn his head, once his head has turned he may fall.
Don’t think Venus always lures the Sun nor does the Sun always drive Venus away. These two can support each other but it takes particular circumstances with particular safe guards.
May this short introduction to the importance of the word yoga and the importance of different unions.
