Yes, astrology is important for us, if for no other reason than it makes us think. The roots of all astrological systems are lost in time. Yes, some systems have been modified and altered from what may have been the original intent, but no matter, if we actually take the time to think about the techniques being used we can’t help but be faced with questions. The questions will rarely have to do with when am I going to fall in love, get a new car or become rich?
Rather, the questions will more likely have to do with broader factors such as: Where did these ideas come from? Is it possible there are forces around me I can not see? These two questions alone, if searched out, will open a world of information as well as stimulate a multitude of other questions, all of which will lead to more information.
For example, there are two major systems of astrology, Vedic which is based on fixed stars using the sidereal zodiac and Western astrology which is based on the relationship between the sun and the moon called the tropical zodiac. Both systems have specific rules unique them and specific philosophies attached to them.
The Vedic system flows from the scientific knowledge of ancient India. As a person begins to explore this ancient knowledge they are introduced to many concepts which are just coming to light now and are hailed as great discoveries today. The founders of current theories used in Physics claim they were guided to their findings, after serious study of the Veda and Upanishads of India. The factors involved in the application of these ancient sciences haves opened whole new worlds of understanding about who we are, how we are related, what our responsibilities are and why we are alive.
Even as a parlor game, astrology can be vitally important to us, because as we think about what it offers our world will expand and so will our consciousness.
