Learning we really are able to make choices about our feelings, thoughts and actions, can be surprising. When this was explained to one woman her response was, “that’s going to be boring. I like my mood swings, I like drama.”

Some people do like drama, no question there. However, drama and contentment rarely co-exist. The woman who made the comment had struggled for years. She wanted contentment but was afraid she would be bored. Eventually she was willing to look at her thought patterns, as shown in her chart.

Today she laughs at her earlier decision of holding on to the drama. Now she has a level of contentment and connection in relationships she never expected would be part of her life. Was it easy for her? Not at all. It isn’t easy for anyone to take responsibility for themselves, indeed it may initially be downright scary, and hard work to boot. But it is possible.
